The electricity chars the rot grubs and unfortunately singe you as well. So I take 8 dmg and all rot grubs are dead? If so..."Ouch," Kanir mutters to himself. He bends down to pick up the jewel. This should bring a pretty penny in Saltmarsh, he thinks as he begins to examine the emerald. And then, a sudden thought occurs to him, and he pauses in his examination of the gemstone. "Um, I don't suppose either of you thought to retrieve my weapon for me?"

The emerald is worth 250 gp.

Kanir slips the emerald into his pocket.
"We'll sell this once we get back to Saltmarsh," he says. "That way maybe this farce won't be a total waste of time."
Kanir looks around for his falchion. Not seeing it, he sighs and heads back up the rickety stairs.
"I'll be right back," he tells his companions. He starts to drop the longsword that is still in his hand, but then thinks better of it. "And I'm taking this with me..."
Emerald is in Kanir's possession with a note "in the pot."
Now, big tough half-orc is too proud to ask for healing, but I'm not. A little lovin', please?

Gripping the unfamiliar sword in hand, Kanir trudges back up the rickety stairs to the room where he had dropped his falchion. His eye narrowed in frustration, he looks down at his uncomfortably tingling arm. That doesn't look good, he thinks. Doesn't feel very good, either. I've had worse, I'll live.Kanir bends down and picks up his falchion. He sheathes the trusty blade, and then stops before he hurls the longsword away. I think I maybe better hang on to this, he thinks, considering my track record since we've entered this gods-forsaken house. He tucks the longsword behind his belt. I need to remember to collect the sheath from that corpse downstairs.Kanir starts to turn and head back down the stairs, and then stops as his eye falls on the crockery shards. What's this? he thinks, kneeling down to inspect them. Did I just see what I thought I saw?search on shards=17, yay! (means there's nothing there, I'm sure; I don't remember anybody checking them, so I might as well since I'm up here.)
I'm having a hard time resisting the urge to dig out my copy of Sinister Secret--just for the map so I know where the hell we are! Old DMing habits means that I need a map!

Well, actually... I do... I've never played a druid before and I don't have the book here at work!!! I gotta remember to do something about this at home!.... You might check the d20SRD. It might take a little effort to navigate, but all the info you need should be in there: class descrip, spell lists, animal companion cheese--I mean, rules. It's only core stuff (PHB, DMG, MM--the main 3 books, that is), so there aren't any splatbook spells, and duskblade (what Kanir is) isn't in there, but it's pretty handy if you do this at work. (If you can access game-type stuff at work; my work computer won't let me access game stuff, so that's why I take my laptop and access their wireless network. Course, since duskblade isn't in the SRD, I can't do Sinister Secret stuff, but, well, you get the idea.)

Your search of the broken bottles reveals only shards of glass and broken pottery.

Eh, maybe not, thinks Kanir. He heads back down the stairs.

Kanir makes it back down to the wine cellar, trying not to grumble too loudly. Once there, he bends to examine the corpse again, taking care to not touch it.
I'm looking for more grubs and a sheath for the longsword. I would assume that since I know the grubs exist, I don't need to roll a search for them. I also assume that there is a sheath, and wouldn't need to roll a search for that. If it looks safe, I'll take the sheath. Since I don't use plate or a shield, I won't look at them too thoroughly, but will give em a quick once over.
After all that, I think we should check the wine racks and the bins, and then look for doors. Including secret ones, but I'll wait.

Sorry I'm taking so long to do anything! I'll try to remember to catch up here soon... it's hard to learn new stuff when I'm at work without books or time...

Upon examining the corpse closer you do see more grubs in the body. A sheath is buckled around it's waist, easily removed without disturbing the grubs. The shield looks rather plain, but the armor looks very nice (like +1 nice).
The bottles are all broken on the floor. you find nothing else of interest at the racks.
Give me a search roll for secret doors.

search=4, god I'm awesome!
Kanir takes the sheath and buckles it around his waist after checking it for more grubs. Casting one more disgusted look at the corpse, Kanir begins to walk the perimeter of the room, looking in vain for any secret passages.
"Gods above," he snarls. "I know there's something down here! Where's that infernal door?!"

Seems a shame to just leave this shield lying here, thinks Kanir. I suppose I'll take it, too. Kanir picks up the shield and hefts it. Not bad; hopefully I won't have to use it.
Kanir continues his search of the area--a search that he is beginning to realize is fruitless.

As you continue your search a clap of thunder rocks the house. Dust drifts down from the floor above. The remnants of bottles send a musical tinkling through the cellar as they knock together.
Give me another search roll please.
