Kanir retrieves his weapon from Cora, and taps Thoril on the shoulder.
"We've already been in that room," he says. "Books, remember? The only room we haven't investigated in this hallway is the northernmost."
How can one have mastered the arcane arts, and yet be so absentminded? Kanir wonders.
He approaches the northern door, and puts his ear to it.

The dimensions of this room are similar to the library across the hall.
This room was once a writing room or study. Against the wall under the windows is a large wooden writing desk partially broken and riddled with damp rot. There are three drawers in each pedestal and a large central drawer; the latter is closed but the others are all open - two obviously broken into forcibly.

"Let's give this room a quick search," says Kanir. "It's pretty obvious to me now that this place might just be haunted, I'd like to find the haunt as soon as we can."
That sounded brave, Kanir thinks to himself. Keep it up and you might just convince yourself that you're not scared half to death.
"Preferably before the haunt finds us..." he murmurs, mostly to himself.
Okay, more search rolls. Checking the desk drawers. search=5 *sigh*

The drawers on the sides are empty except for much dust and one small spider web. The middle drawer is locked.

"Maybe haunts are like animals Kanir." Cora patts Kanirs arm in an effort to comfort him. "Maybe they are really more afraid of us than we are of them."
Cora thinks to herself, "Poor baby, maybe I shouldn't have pushed him into this quest."
"ooohh... A locked drawer!" Cora moves in for a closer look.

Kanir rolls his eyes and ignores Cora's attempt to "comfort" him.
"The drawer is locked," says Kanir. "Maybe we can force it. Unless either of you can open it?"
If neither Cora or Thoril can magick the door open, Kanir is going to try to force it. Or try to smash it open with his sword hilt. str=13 ugh

With a mighty blow Kanir uses the hilt of his sword to break the lock on the drawer. Cora pushes him aside and begins to go through the papers that it contains. It all appears mundane, receipts for payment on the purchase of various chemicals and laboratory equipment, etc..
Just as Cora was about to leave the junk for Kanir and Thoril to go through she notices that size of the drawer and the size of the desk don't add up. Quickly she pulls the drawer out of the desk and peers in the opening.
An obvious secret compartment fills the back of the empty cavity. With a flick Cora slides the door open to reveal something wrapped in cloth. Carefully she unwraps the bundle to reveal a glass phial. It appears to contain a watery, rose-colored liquid.

Kanir casts detect magic on the phial and liquid.
"I would imagine this is a magic potion," Kanir says. "But let's see what my spell can tell us."

Your spell causes the phial to give off an aura of the Conjuration school of magic.

"Cora, would you like to carry this potion?" asks Kanir. "I believe it is anti-venom, and you know a great deal about things like that."
If there's nothing else in the room, let's go back to the main room. I believe there's a hallway to the north? If so, let's check that out.

In the dim light of the house you can see that the hall to the north goes about 20 feet and turns right. From your position you can see 3 doors. One on the right hand wall is about 10 feet up. One on the left hand wall is about 15 feet away. Strait ahead on the north wall is the third door. As you contemplate your choices you notice that the wind is starting to pick up outside. The thunder you heard earlier sounds to be getting closer. I'll try to give a map of the hall in case my description was not clear enough.Ok, this thing is making it hard. Nevermind.

One on the left hand wall is about 15 feet away. Strait ahead on the north wall is the third door. So that's 4 ways to go, correct? Three doors and the hall turns to the right? The right hand door is closest, so let's check that first. (And if I'm wrong in my interpretation, correct me and we'll pick a different door...)

You are correct.
You move up the hall to the right hand door. When you reach it you see that it is slightly ajar. With a quick push you swing the door open to reveal a 15 x 20 room. There is a fireplace in the southwest corner. 2 dirty windows on the east wall let in dim light with an occasional flash of lightning in the distance.
Two stuffed armchairs stand near the fireplace of this room. The covers of both have been torn or cut and the stuffing has been pulled out; however, the wooden frames are still intact. The pieces of a broken table lie on the floor near the north wall.

Kanir checks out the overstuffed chairs. He wants to see if he can determine how long ago they were cut open, or if he can figure out what was being searched for.

As Thoril moves to the fireplace to search it the litter in the hearth moves. With a sooty explosion a large spider jumps out and lands on Thoril.
Its hisses at him and sinks his fangs into his neck. You can almost see the poison entering his body as he spasms in pain.
Take 2 points damage and give me a fortitude save Thoril. Everyone give me you initiative.

i dont think its been an hour since i cast mage armor, it was cast when we heard the voice. So ac is still 16, and I will cast Ice Dagger 1 standard action, Range close 25ft+5 ft per 2 levels. The melted ice cupped in your palm crystalizes into a daggerlike shard of ice that flies at your foe, exploding into a ball od icy fragments at its feet. And with my Flash Frost Spell feat I will do an extra 2 points of cold damage for a total of 5 pts of damage, and the area of the spell is covered with a slippery layer of ice for one round. DC10 to move through it. (balance)
