Have any of you seen that WotC is changing the DnD minis line? They're going from 8-mini randomized packs for $15, to 3-mini non-randomized hero packs--with packaging that makes the minis visible--for $11, and 5-mini semi-randomized monster packs for $15--1 visible mini per pack. What do you all think of this? We don't play skirmish minis anymore, and we've used minis the very few times we've played 4e, so this sounds kind of nice to me. Course, they're not printing skirmish cards to go with these minis, so why bother making any of them rare? $11 seems like a ton of money for 3 plastic miniatures. On the other hand, I personally am far too lazy to paint minis, and I also don't have any idea what non-painted metal minis go for--or what comparable painted plastic minis go for, either. New power cards in the packs sounds kinda neat--options are good, I don't care who you are! But still, 3 minis for $11? Actually, depending on the quality and variety of these minis, I could see paying that much for an accurate mini of a PC that I really like, and then having the extra two available for characters if my "main" dies. Or for NPCs when I DM. But the monster packs... 4e is all about the group of PCs fighting groups of critters. Five minis is barely 1 encounter in the new rules! Maybe if they're "collectible" there will be an aftermarket, and I can get 30 assorted goblins for five bucks or something. That would be nice--30 assorted goblins are good, I don't care who you are! So what do the rest of you think about this? Anybody plan on getting a few of these, or a ton of them? I think I'll prolly wait and see what they have, maybe pick up a monster pack or two, and definitely grab a dragonborn fighter with axe and shield. Maybe.

I was about to post on this topic, and saw joey already did
Upon the release of D&D Monsters and D&D Heroes, we will no longer package the D&D Miniatures line in its current configuration (fully randomized booster packs and huge packs). This means that November’s set -- D&D Miniatures: Demonweb -- will be the final release sold in fully randomized booster packs
There are two series scheduled for 2009 and three scheduled for 2010. MSRP $10.99.
I kind of like it.....for 4th ed dnd point of veiw.

That looks okay--I'd like a little more info about wild shape, though. All it says is that your form doesn't change your stats, and that you have to be in beast form to use certain powers; if your form doesn't change stats, and all it does is let you use certain powers, well, that seems kinda lame. Surely there must be some benefit to wild shaping.
Actually, after having read closer, there is no extra benefit (at least from what's presented in the article). I think that WotC is on the right track in not allowing the druid to wild shape willy-nilly like he could in 3e, but the power could be more interesting. Some sort of system that allows for a player to make strategic decisions when choosing his form--like a form that is very fast but has crappy dmg and AC, or a form that can deal lots of damage but is slow and gets hit a lot. That kinda thing.
Yeah, I know that 4e is more about fluff than crunch, and I'm prolly just looking at it from the point of view of 3e, but still.
It does seem as if druids get a much bigger selection of powers than other classes, at least at wills. And they get three of them--which is only fair since one or two can only be used in beast form and the other one or two can't be used in beast form.
Hmm, looking closer, I notice the power Skittering Sneak, which sort of addresses my point about strategy when wild shaping. If there are many powers like that, then I might have been wrong about wild shape being lame.
I guess that this is gonna be in the PHB2?
I'm actually kinda surprised that I can look at the article, since I don't have a sub to DnDI or whatever they call it. Thanks for the link redshirt!

The druid is going to be in phb2 and they gave everyone a taste. I heard the subscribers are going to get to playtest all 30 levels before the book is out. Looks like I'll have to make you a copy. ;D ;D

Hey, ig, you asked about the greatbow not long ago. Here are the stats for ya: Greatbow superior ranged weapon, 2 hand prof +2, dmg d12, range 25/50, price 30gp, weight 5lb, bow group, properties: load free This massive, recurved bow stands as tall as a human when strung, and it fires arrows with greater power than a traditional longbow.

Thank you sir. I actually went to Barnes & Nobles last night and copied that info out of Adventurer's Vault. Now what I need to know is can I use this bow? Range and damage is greater so I don’t see why I wound not want to but am I proficient with it? Do I have to take a feat or some thing? Thanks and sorry if this is a stupid question.

You are not proficient with superior weapons (PHB 103 tells you what you're proficient with), so you would need the Weapon Proficiency feat (PHB 201). Actually, I think you could still use it without being proficient with it, but you wouldn't get the prof bonus (PHB 219?). Pretty sure that's how that works, anyway. I personally would want the bonus, but I can't hit shit anyway, bonus or no... No, it wasn't a stupid question. 4e is still new, and none of us know everything. Better to ask and be sure than to assume and be wrong.

It looks like I lied to Rodger tonight. The rules for advancing magic items are in Adventures Vault. Just need someone with the Enchant Item Ritual and enough $$.
