The other day I was thinking it’s about time I built a standard deck. I’ve got that green-white ghostway deck but I wanted something else to play. So I started looking at what new duel lands I have. The only two I have four each of are the red-white and the black-blue. I also just pulled my fourth Shadowmage Infiltrator. I had wanted to play a 4x Infiltrator – 4x cutpurse deck anyway so black blue it was. I also picked up four Fallen Ideal (that enchantment that makes a creature a Fallen Angel) so they went in also. The rest of the deck was 187 critters and Grave Pact. It’s a fun little deck to play.
Um ….. That really wasn’t worth posting was it? Well there is more.
I do have a Teferi and I remember Mike Flores saying “Teferi is the new Meloku the Clouded Mirror” in one of his articles so I threw him in as an after thought. His casting cost is kind of crazy at 3 blue and 2 colorless but he does have flash and he gives all your other creatures not in play flash. That’s kind of good right? In Flores’s article he said something about it being good against control because you can play him after they tap out as an instant or something like that. What ever.
So I finally get to play a game. I’m at Say Heyys and up against blue-white tron. I play a couple of Cutpurse and a couple of Finkels. He counters some and wraths the rest. I play a couple diggers that meet more counters and finale get a Shadowmage to stick. I’m pinging away and drawing cards and finally draw Teferi. Oh yah, I forgot about him. So I wait to play him until he taps out because that’s what Flores says we are supposed to do. I pass the turn. My opponent says “during your EOT ….” and he taps out for a Teferi. I’ve still got one in hand and he is taped out so I cast in response. Mine resolves. Then his resolves and they both die from the legend rule. Next turn I play a bounce creature targeting a digger, replay the digger, and get back my Teferi. Turn after that I get Teferi in play. At this point I try to play something and he counters it. Dustin, who has been watching the game says “you can’t do that.” I’m thinking he doesn’t have the mana for it or something. Then Dustin looks at me and says “You got a Teferi in play.”
What, is there more text on this thing or something?
Yep.
Each opponent can play spells only any time he or she could play a sorcery.
WOW! That means they can only play their instants during their main phase and only if the stack is empty!
OMFG!!!!!!! That means they can never cast a counterspell!!! Ever. A counterspell by it's very nature can only be played if something is on the stack.
Stop what you are doing and go buy a play set of these. Thank me later.
