Hi. So, here are the choices: 1. This would be Epic Tordek, possibly with epic Rikka for a partner. If I do that, I can't work in Mephling Pyromancer (at least not easily). But anyway, this band is about making Tordek be all he can be (with the minis I have...). 2. Pit Fiend is the man...er, devil. And his epic version would be better. I think. I don't have a good idea for this, yet, besides just using epic Pit and putting a 200pt team along with him. 3. Brass Samurai and a Purple Worm or two. Worms are big, yeah, yeah, yeah. They're not small, no, no, no. And they like to eat little guys. And with melee reach 3, whirlwind attack from Sam seems pretty good. 4. Nightwalker is, well Nightwalker. And he's awesome. And this team would give me a good excuse to use Orc Drood. And that's never a bad thing. DC 21 finger of death is kinda cool, too. So, vote (so we can see if this works or not), and pick my epic warband!

of course I have to pick Buttcheeks McGee... he is one of my personal favorites... and it looks like I win! ;D course, that might be because no one else has voted yet.... So Mr. Shiney Hieny it is! (finger of death is a beautiful thing)

Purple Worms seem weak (AC 19) and Nightwalker is like putting all your eggs in one basket (393 points with 180 HP). If RMS plays there will all ready be at least one Tordek, so my vote is for the fiend. I think he would be a better fight.
Not sure what I’m playing yet or if I will. If I do play, one team I’m thinking about is a Bahamut team on teleport temple. Now that I’m thinking about it Purple Worm can burrow so I can’t trap them in your starting area and Nightwalker has Immune Cold so no cone for 60.
The other team is a CE quad build (yep, I just said quad for epic) I was thinking 2x nonepic Balor and 2x nonepic marilith. This would leave over 150 points for fodder, you know like large black dragons or something.
I was also thinking about a CG wizzo team (Elminster, Archmage) but not if there is a chance I would face large, burrowing, Swallowing Whole purple things.
So I don't know what I would play.

Well, Glenn has voted for Nightwalker--he seems to think that he would be able to beat Pit too easily. I'll ask Tim and Arlen what they think.
I agree that worms might be weak; especially if everybody knows I'm playing them...
Four votes so far (five with Glenn). Who we missing?

Okay, two more votes from those not on my message board. Arlen votes for Pit for the same reasons as ig2000 (and he mentioned that he's thinking about using Tordek also, so he definitely don't wanna see no worms!), and Tim voted for worms, cause he thinks it would be cool (I think he said "cool" anyway--he may have said "funny" or even "stupid"). So, Whirly Worms is still in the lead by one vote.
After reading ig's stratagem (Bahamut), I'm wondering why I didn't have Bluespawn Godslayer as a choice. Theoretically, the Godslayer would be good against Bahamut (is that +20 vs Outsider Dragons, or only +10--don't have the card handy, and Shoebox is kind of vague...). But worms against Bahamut? Uh, okay, no.
The CE quad thing? No idea. Having never played epic (or once, long ago, I think), I can't determine how worms would do against it. Pit or Tordek would have a chance (a good chance, methinks), and I think Nightwalker would laugh, but worms?
Worms vs. Wizards? Yum yum, eat em up.
There is still time to vote! So please do!!

And after reading this article I'm wishing my challenge was 50 pts. Oh, well. Please vote! Against Worms!! (Kidding. The Worms will crush you. They are hungry, and they must feed...)

ummm... don't worms eat dirt? Yes. They also eat little peoples that get in their way. They need protein, and dirt doesn't have a lot of it. They also enjoy the taste of elves, fresh ones, but then who doesn't?

Alright, looks like it's Whirly Worms!
I have a couple different configurations, both mostly identical, but I'd like opinions on them. (I won't ask for a formal vote this time.)
Option 1: 2x Purple Worm 1x Brass Sam 2x Wand Expert 500pts, map dunno
The wand experts both have magic weapon and blur, and both spells would make the worms better. Two wand experts so that I can get the worms buffed in the first 2 rounds. Still probably slow, but better (maybe) than unbuffed worms. Also, wand experts can lay down some ranged damage.
Option 2: 2x Purple Worm 1x Brass Sam 1x Wand Expert 1x Wild Elf Warsinger 1x Aasimar Favored Soul 1x Tavern Brawler 500pts, map dunno
More of the same, except there's only one expert for blur. The favored soul adds a bless (every little bit counts, right?), and the warsinger adds some damage when worms charge. Tavern brawler rounds things out for 7 activations, 2 more than Option 1. I really doubt if the favored soul will contribute much more than a magic weapon and hopefully the bless, but that might be worth 20pts? Eh, prolly not. I really like the warsinger, though, so simply allowing it to fit in this band might be enough to warrant losing the second wand expert (and note that I'm only assuming that the wand experts will be worth their points in the first band...).
A third option would be to go with only one worm and try to work in an epic Rikka. That would change the team a lot, though, and probably be against the spirit of "the rules" ("the rules" being that this candidate was called Whirly Worms, not A Worm and Other Stuff). If anybody has ideas for Worm + Rikka, I'd like to hear em, though...
So which option do you prefer? Or do you have a better idea (other than "don't use worms")? Let me know! You only have until Friday!
edit: Hmm, I guess I actually did leave one worm as an option in the first post. Perhaps I should explore the Single-Worm Theory more thoroughly...

Oh, and go Worms.

Well, the tournament is over, and I did...
Wait for it!
I decided to go with Option 2 (2x Worms, Brass Sam, Wand Expert, Wild Elf Warsinger, Aasimar Favored Soul, Tavern Brawler) on Field of Ruin. There were five of us; no ig, no rms. Oh well.
Round 1; Tim; Strahd, Bluespawn Godslayer, Dracolich
I won map so we played on Field of Ruin. (The thing with most of these guys is that they don't consider map too much. And to be honest, I didn't consider map too much with this challenge myself.) I started out by buffing my worms with blur and magic weapon, and then moving them towards the central victory area. I managed to charge his undead dragon with both worms, I think, and took it down with not much trouble. Strahd was next. Tim killed some of my chumps, and whiffed on the blurred worms. The godslayer didn't last much longer. I'm sorry, I don't remember this game very well, except that blur was frickin awesome! In fact, my notes for this game consist of "All Star=blur!"
1-0; Wow. That game (iirc, which I might not) was total domination on my part. With worms. Excuse me. With Whirly Worms. Well, this lame-ass team will show it's true colors with this next game surely.
Round 2; redshirt; Epic Ultroloth (Kif), 3x Doogie Champ, Dragonmark Heir of Denieth (DHoD), Fire Giant Forgepriest (FGFP), Greenspawn Sneak, Inspired Shock Trooper
Wow, redshirt was playing something you don't see very often--a team with maximum activations! He's also playing a very Ixos-style team, which is obviously cool. Even better, 7 of his 8 peoples are bite-sized. The Worms were drooling. He won map and picked Field of Ruin. redshirt's sneak gained him some early victory points, naturally, and my buffers buffed some worms. And then, the feeding frenzy. He moved his dudes into nice whirlwind attack positions, and I moved my worms to take advantage of them, and moved my brawler to try and take out his sneak. The brawler bit the dust, but my samurai breathed fire on his sneak and shock trooper. Meanwhile, the worms had his FGFP flanked and were taking big bites out of him. He made his morale save, and I moved my Sam over so that the worms could whirl. The worms proceeded to swallow whole all of his doogies, his DHoD, and, um, my Wand Expert (Kif possessed a worm...). The final blow was struck when a worm beat Kif's conceal 11 and swallowed him.
2-0; the bad thing about this game was that both of us forgot about the Doogies' conceal 6. redshirt remembered Kif's conceal when he got attacked, and then cussed cause he realized that the doogies have it, too. I forgot it, too, and my only excuse is that I was so excited to be eating dwarves that I wasn't thinking clearly. I'm not sure the game would have ended differently; it would have just taken longer, I think.
Round 3; Glenn; Epic Solar, Epic Justicator, DHoD, Standardbearer, Aasimar Fighter
He won map and chose Dragondown Grotto. I know this map well, but thought it would favor his flyers. I started by buffing worms, as usual, and he moved his dudes to the central part of the map (the pit). For some reason, he wouldn't double move his guys, and I got a buffed worm to the shared victory area first, theoretically controlling the area. It seemed good until the next round. He moved his Solar to within 2 and BLANG!! crit! 80 dmg in a hurry. He brought the Justicator in right after the Solar, said "smite chaos" and rolled--BLANG!!!!! crit!! Crap! 60 more! The worm makes morale, but is down to 60. This looks bad for the good guys. The fresh worm joins the mostly dead worm, and they begin trying to pick apart his heavies. The mostly dead worm dies quickly, Glenn making the blur rolls with impunity. He didn't seem to want to base the worms, which was great for me since my worms have a greater reach (3 to his 2, and Solar gets 3 big attacks to my 1 big one and 1 small one). I stayed out of his reach as much as possible, finished off the Justicator (with my wand expert, who I ran all the way around the pit so I could get a shot), and whirled on his chumps when they got close. It finally came down to his heavily wounded Solar, my heavily wounded worm, my lightly wounded brass sam, and my wand expert. He finally decided to base the worm, determined to get an aoo when I moved it away. The worm was at 120. The Solar was at...I can't remember. I did some math, and determined that the worm needed to hit it 4 times, the expert had to hit it twice, and the sam had to hit it once? Maybe twice. That would be...105? Something like that. So, I attack with the worm, hit. Attack with worm, natural 1. Crap. Wand. Charge with sam, miss. Crap! Roll init. He says, "I hope I get a 20 and you get a 1." I was like, "uh, that would suck." Guess what happened. He attacks the worm. Hit for 40. He swings, hits, misses conceal. He swings again, hit, misses conceal! The worm hits with both of his attacks, the wand expert shoots some acid, and the brass sam finishes the solar off! Wow.
Afterwards, Glenn says that he should have swung once and then backed off, taking the aoo and getting into position for his last slaying arrow (he rolled a 1 to hit on the first, much earlier in the game). Assuming the worm died, he could have then picked off my other dudes with impunity. I guess he got caught up in the heat of the moment. I understand. Epic Solar hits for 40 a pop, with 3 attacks/rnd.
3-0; unbelievably, I'm undefeated with Worms. (How ya like me now, xombie?!) Granted, I needed lots of luck to beat Glenn's Angel Squad, and round 2 would have been different if redshirt and I were better at this game, but hey. Undefeated with Worms!!
Round 4; Arlen; Epic Marilith, 2x Balor, Orc Wardrummer, Lolth's Sting, Tiefling Blademaster
Great. Mary and Big Red. My nemesis. (Actually, the other two times I've faced this couple I won, but the first was against ig who let me win, and the other was against Arlen, and I definitely should have lost. Regardless, I hate them. I can't figure out Marilith. I don't know why, I just can't figure her out.) Long story short, I got pwnt. Balor critted a worm on his first swing, and then stupid me, I allowed the other Balor and Mary to get close to both worms. I did rout a Balor, but he rallied, and Mary did blow a few blur checks, but not near enough. This match was my turn to blow conceal checks, and it was plenty frustrating. I think the only bad guy I killed was the Blademaster (didn't even get to eat him), but to no avail.
3-1; not bad for Worms, and I'm still in the running.
The last match of the evening was Tim vs. Arlen. Each had one loss, and the winner would play me. I said at the beginning that I wasn't going to play against Mary and Balors again. Arlen won the match, and walked away with the prize--one of my Purple Worms!
Heh.
He says that the next challenge is 600pt Epic. Hmm. More epic. Well, one thing's for sure; I won't be playing Whirly Worms! In fact, I'm planning on something a little more Lawful, and a lot more Evil. Possibly.............Epic Pit?
Well, I guess we'll find out in four weeks.
Sorry about big blocks of text. It's just part of what I am.
