this is neither inane, nor a babling...or babbling...
i really really really really really wanna go back to gencon...i've been there 3 times, in '97, '99, and '00, and i'm dyin to get back there...if you've been, you know what i'm talkin about, and if you haven't, then you don't have a clue what you're missing...if i get more than 3 hours sleep a night during my time there, i feel like i'm missing out on something...plus, last time i went, i only spent about $450 and didn't miss anything i wanted to do, so it's not a bank-breaker...
we all know it's only 3 months away, anybody able to make plans for it?...or will this be something we can start planning for 2009?...thoughts?

I've always wanted to go to GenCon, but have never been able. I've never been able to save up the cash to afford it, so never really seriously considered going. Now I have a new job, and will still be on probation this year (but I won't be a temp! : , so this year is no can do for me. Next year, though, depending on if and when I get vacation...

i remember the first time, in '97, gettin up there on wednesday afternoon...me, aaron and nick, in aaron's minivan...we didn't even have a hotel room, we just slept in shifts in the van or in various hallways...i played magic until like 4 in the morning that night, and was still up and ready to go when the doors to the main hall opened at like 9 the next morning...we ran into a lot of friends up there, too, so we were able to shower lol...otherwise...i shudder to think
the main draw for me, other than just the fact that i'm surrounded by what is, to me, the coolest culture in the world, is that i get to meet my favorite authors and artists...i can't tell you what it's like to trade ideas with Ed Greenwood and R. A. Salvatore and Jeff Grub, and talk art with Douglas Shuler and Larry Elmore and Keith Parkinson...then to sit in on their roundtables or dinners and hear about the state of the game, of the realms, of what's coming up...i know i'm a total fanboy, but hell, i was in a dreamstate every day each time i went...
i don't know what it'll be like in indianapolis as opposed to milwaukee, but i hear good things about the town and the experience in general, so i'm not too worried

forgive me for double posting, but i didn't realize you couldn't edit a post, and i forgot to add something...
just one specific experience...the last year i was able to go was in 2000...i was in a large conference room with a few dozen other people, and at the speaker's table were Jeff Grubb, Ed Greenwood (dressed as his most famous alter-ego, the Surly Mage of Shadowdale), and a cupla other people i don't remember...it was a question and answer session with Elminster...and at the end of the hour + long event, the Gen Con staff presented Ed with a precise duplicate of the staff of Elminster...we stood and applauded and the man was speechless...we just clapped louder as we realized how much of a surprise this was for him and how much he was moved...magic

Wow! All that makes me want to go that much more! THere's a dude that posts pictures on the DnD message boards from GenCon every year (I assume every year, that is), and it looks like a whole lot of fun. (You can edit posts--it's the "modify" button.

Donald Baker, 51, was re-arrested in March in Peterborough, Ontario, when he called the police department to request a wake-up call for his court appearance the next morning; amazed at his audacity, police ran a records check and found an additional arrest warrant on him. [Peterborough This Week, 3-17-08]

The Geek Hierarchy. How geeky are you? I'm geekier than a published author, less geeky than a LARPer. Thank God!

if I believe there is something in the mailbox, does that make it true? Depends on whether or not there's anything in the mailbox.
