Here's a nice random map maker. I like it better than Jamis Buck's, as it's more customizable, and in color. It doesn't offer a random key of encounters, though. www.gozzys.com/index.phpHere's Jamis Buck's NPC generator, really nice. Not really too good for a bbeg, but good for random doods and goons. (You can also get to his other generators from here, and I think the dungeon generator also gives encounters.) www.aarg.net/~minam/npc.cgiMore maps on this one. Haven't used it much, but some of the stuff might be cool. www.irony.com/webtools.htmlThis site has free downloadable cards--monsters, spells and so on (all blank). I haven't used it, but I can see how some of it might be handy. theothergamecompany.com/stuff-cards.htmPick up InnMage and BookMage from this site--random libraries and inns, awesome and free! ;D www.mapmage.com/This next is a collection of links to various world-building sites. Not sure if anybody is interested, but you might find some cool stuff here. Not a lot of crunchy bits, from what I've seen, but some cool stuff, nonetheless. hiddenway.tripod.com/world/Here's a few more: www.dndadventure.com/www.community3e.com/www.planetadnd.com/www.planewalker.com/index.phpHope you like this stuff. redshirt suggested this random dungeon maker: www.wizards.com/dnd/mapper/launcher.htm Looks good. And the SRD.

Just found this cool timeline generator. Neat if you're building a world. Generic, but gives some decent ideas and helps with fleshing out a world. www.fantasist.net/timeline.shtml

Hmm. It took me over half a year to realize I never posted the SRD. It's pretty handy. And it's free. Even if it is 3.5 (boo). (Although I'm sure you can find the 3.0 if you are so inclined.)

Decent. I like that it gives boxed text for room descriptions. It doesn't do a whole lot of the work for you, though (no stats for the 4 hooded pupil ettins, for example, and doesn't take into account that there are monsters in the room in the descriptions, and doesn't list any treasure; I think that Jamis Buck's generator [ here] has treasure, but I'm not sure...Buck's generator also gives NPC stats, but it looks like only for the core books--that would be PHB, DMG and MM). It is a random dungeon generator, though, so what do you expect, really? The map looks nice. A problem I've noticed with random dungeon generators is that they often don't give an entrance to the dungeon! This is one of those. ( gozzy's maps have entrances, and I think the maps look real nice.) But the map is clear and serviceable. Now, if we could somehow combine gozzy's for the maps, Buck's for the complete package, and DnD's for the detail, well, we'd never have to write adventures ever again! Thanks for the link, redshirt. Nice find! PS: For reference, here's a random DnD adventure, a random Buck adventure, and a random Gozzy map. Just to illustrate what I'm talking about.

I am shocked! Not write my own adventure??? That's half the fun!

I agree, but the maps are nice. I don't like drawing maps, so much.
It might be an interesting experiment to run a random adventure. I would most likely get to looking at it and then changing everything around, anyway, though.

Here's another NPC generator. It provides a list of gear, which is why I find it superior to Buck's! Unfortunately, fighters generated on this site tend to carry picks and have 2w fighting whether it's a good idea or not. Or maybe that's just fighters of the races I was generating...

I actually enjoy making my own map... does that make me strange?

I actually enjoy making my own map... does that make me strange? Nope. There are lots of other things that make you strange.

First 4e post in this thread! Go me!! ;D First 2008 post in this thread... Anyway, check out this site for a Monster Maker. Along with the Monster Math Cruncher (same site), you can make monsters in the style of 4e (stat blocks, that is). There's a bit of downloading involved, but it seems pretty cool. The rest of the site seems decent, also (the Adventure Seed Generator gave me the title for my next adventure: The Rubicund Oubliette of the Hyena Undead Servant's Fountain! You can't make this shit up!)

The encounter builder on the DDI site seems kind of cool, actually. But now, having read Buehler's article, I'm not sure if I'm willing to pay for the full DDI or not. 5-8 bucks a month for the free crap we're getting now? (Which is decent, but not "uber" as some would have you believe. It's comparable to what was on the site before 4e, imo...) Eh, I'm underwhelmed. I plan on checking out the full DDI stuff (the character builder and dungeon builder and whatnot), but I'm not exactly ecstatic about it...

Yeah, the game table is going to have to be very cool for me to get to excited. You can get programs now for free to let you play online, tho I like the 3d aspect of it.
Have to wait and see.

Hmm, that looks like it's only for use with their mapping program. Can it be used just to make tokens to print out? (No, I didn't dig around too much. I'm lazy. You know that.)

I know its possible cuz i read a thread on the boards about a guy doing it. Dont ask me how its done, but i would think you would just have to print the file out.
